FAQ's

How do photovoltaic systems work?
Our photovoltaic (PV) systems consist of a series of panels that collect and convert energy from the sun into electricity. The system is tied to the electric grid so when excess power is generated, it is fed back into the system, spinning your electric meter backwards.

What are the advantages of having a photovoltaic system installed in my home or commercial building?

  • lower electric bills,
  • rate stabilization,
  • qualification for Renewable Energy Certificates that can be sold back into the Massachusetts energy grid,
  • safe, environmentally friendly and non-polluting energy
  • reduction of dependence on foreign oil and fossil fuels, and
  • possible qualification for rebates, grants, and tax incentives

Is it difficult to secure an MTC (Massachusetts Technology Collaborative) grant?
One of the first questions we ask is, who provides your electricity today? To qualify for an MTC grant, the provider must be a grid-tied company. In other words, customers of municipal power companies are not eligible for MTC grant monies. Once eligibility has been confirmed, Moss Hollow will work directly with the customer to fill out the required paperwork and will manage its progress through the MTC grant process. Processing time ranges from 4 to 6 weeks. Some residential customers may qualify for an adder that equates to as much as 50% of their new system as well as additional tax credits. Small businesses may be eligible for 30% uncapped rebate. (Note these programs are available through 2008.)

What’s the average cost of a system?
Each system is unique and is based on the customer’s site, energy usage, and various other elements we consider. Moss Hollow Solar, LLC does a great deal of analysis to make sure we select and balance the system’s components to ensure optimal output for each customer. A customized quote will be presented for each project.

How long does it take to get a system installed?
Moss Hollow prioritizes current customers to ensure the fastest possible completion of each installation, communicating any delays that may be encountered due to inclement weather, availability of materials, or site conditions that have to be remedied before the new system can be installed.

Why should we choose Moss Hollow Solar?
Moss Hollow is one of fewer than 20 NABCEP-Certified (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) installers in the New England. This certification reflects our expertise in photovoltaic technology and, in combination with our knowledge as general contractors, should provide peace of mind that you will have a positive experience. We take great pride in our track record of happy customers.

Will you be available to answer questions and solve problems after the installation is completed?
Absolutely. Because we not only work in central Massachusetts, we live here and therefore are available to our customers after the installation is completed.
